Usability:Good: icons for executable programs, program groups, program switching, the first usable version of Windows.
Start of the Microsoft Windows 3.1 setup program, running on a MS-DOS 6.2 operating system. Now with enhanced support for VGA-graphic adapters with blue blackground and white characters, and support for the function keys for installation and abort.

Choose between Express setup (recommended, using some defaults) and manual installation.

Standard configuration (including graphic adapter, keyboard layout, language support and others), may be changed by the user.
Now the setup copies the basic Windows files onto harddisk and switches to graphic mode (Standard VGA using 640*480 pixel and 16 colours).

Setup generates program groups and program icons (also introduced in Windows 3.1). A big enhancement for usability!

Windows 3.1 was able to search for well-known MS-DOS programs on all existing harddisks (C: and D:) and to generate icons for these programs.

In some cases Windows 3.1 was not sure which program is the real one. Here it found EDIT.COM from MS-DOS and asks if this is really the MS-DOS editor.

All other MS-DOS programs found may be added or excluded in Windows 3.1 manually.

Also a new feature: a tutorial for working with Windows and a mice is included and may be started. Well, let us have a look...

First the tutorial asks, wether the user has knowledge about a mice and is able to work with such a new and exciting hardware.

The tutorial introduces program groups, which may be opened by a double-leftclick of the mice.

Now the program group Addons ("Zubehör") has been opened and the icons of the grouped programs are displayed.

After reboot, Windows has to be started manually (or using a according command within AUTOEXEC.BAT). Still MS-DOS is the main interface for computers...

The Windows 3.1 logo during startup, which will interrupt the startup for two seconds. A nice trick was to start win : which skips the logo.
